Why the cringe?
Think back to the last three times someone tried to sell you something. What do you remember?
The guy who sold by applying pressure.
The woman who hounded you down, which felt so unwelcome and invasive.
The manipulative sleazy salesman talking a hundred miles an hour, in order to distract you from the fact that you don't want to buy from him.
You might have actually bought something, just to get them off your back...
And then comes the time for you to sell.
Are you going to do what those folks do?
This is when many people get caught between resentful anger and the thought, That stuff clearly works, so I should do the same.
But what if the prospect fills you with so much distaste, it makes you cringe?
The choice you're staring at is: become one of those people, do as they do โ or let the beautiful thing you want to bring into the world fail.
So you try selling their way. You swallow the idea that you have to "sell yourself" (even though the phrase smacks of slavery).
It all feels so ugly...
Here's the good news:
their way is not the only way to sell.
And you already know that.
Because there is a dream inside you which insists that better is possible.
There is a dream inside you which insists that better is possible.
Beautiful Selling
Just for a minute, imagine stepping into a world where selling means talking about the beauty of the thing. Being excited and sharing the excitement.
This is a world where you can feel and say, This is me, this is what I have, this is what I can do. I love how beautiful this is.
Imagine saying:
This is me, this is what I have, this is what I can do. I love how beautiful this is.
What happens when you do that?
Take a peak out of the corner of your eye. Do you see resentful or frustrated faces? There might be a couple... but many more of those who look lit up by your enthusiasm and inspiration.
Because love and excitement are infectious.
It offers people a chance to taste how good what you have and what you do can feel.
To help someone choose
The reason so much (shoddy) selling feels invasive is this: it's other people wanting to decide what's right for you.
It's disrespectful.
Beautiful selling works differently. It means meeting people on the level, with respect for them as well as for yourself.
Beautiful selling means helping someone choose.
Beautiful selling means helping someone choose.
Because not all buying is as simple as picking up groceries. With certain services and products, people need help to make a choice they'll be happy with.
And if you become someone who can help people experience a foretaste of something exciting or desirable, and show them a path towards it, some will be happy and excited to take you up on that invitation.
How to make this real for yourself?
Before we go any further:
How did it feel to imagine the world of beautiful selling?
Just those few seconds picturing it might have been enough to lift you past the hurdles, so you can create that world around you.
But if that brief glimpse of a beautiful world felt all too fleeting, it may be helpful to find ways to build it up. To keep on dreaming it until it becomes real for you, so you can start to take it out for a spin in the world around you.
There are many ways to help dreams build substance.
I love to nurture dreams through NeuroGraphica.
NeuroGraphicaยฎ is a tool for non-verbal thinking.
It uses simple lines and shapes to help you think where words can't yet reach.
No artistic ability required.
No drawing experience needed.
Just paper.
A marker.
Curiosity.

"I was curious: How could drawing lines help me think?
"The surprise was: you can draw about something โ almost as if you're writing about it, but without words getting in the way."

Draw Beautiful Selling into existence
If ugly selling is what you're familiar with, simply deciding to think differently rarely works.
NeuroGraphica lets you give your imagination somewhere new to live.
Your drawings become a place to try on a different relationship with selling.

Why I created this workshop
I discovered how icky selling can feel when I first began to build Margarita ByHeart.
Whenever it came time to sell, my enthusiasm for my business vanished, to be replaced by dread and distaste.
My enthusiasm for my business vanished, to be replaced by dread and distaste.
I knew I couldn't run a business if I couldn't sell. But I had no idea how to make myself feel okay about selling.
Sales trainings showed me skills โ which I couldn't apply because the distaste would fill my mouth with cotton wool.
Finally, I realised: I didn't need another sales technique, I needed a different picture of what selling could be.
I didn't need another sales technique. I needed a different picture of what selling could be.
The more I drew about selling, the less burdened I felt by those old echoes. I began to make my own picture of selling: something I could feel at home with.
Then I started talking to other founders and solopreneurs. It turned out I wasn't the only one. So I began sharing what had helped me.
