Want to be part of my new book?

Do you remember feeling discouraged, bored or distracted during your study years?
It’s a very common experience, which came up when I hosted my Get Unstuck workshop last week.
What do you remember from your Uni / college days?
To tell the story in order.
Last Friday, I hosted one of my Get Unstuck online workshops, as part of the 2025 Global Festival of Active Learning.
The Zoom room was full of educators, i.e. people involved in supporting learning.
We talked about how tutors can help students overcome some of the more subtle, psychological challenges that students commonly face.
We’re talking the whole lot. Losing confidence. Not seeing the point of some tasks - or even of some courses. Wondering how what you’re studying will help you step into the life you envisage for yourself after you graduate. And maybe, at the back of your mind, the disconcerting realisation that you don’t know how to envisage the life you want after graduating…
As you can imagine, it was a lively discussion!
The surprise came later that afternoon, when I received an email from a Series Editor for Routledge, a well-regarded publisher of professional and academic books. She wrote that she was impressed by my workshop and invited me to consider turning my process into a student-facing 'study skills' textbook.
I’ve had two chapters published in books on Active Learning, sharing ideas for activities in the educational space. Writing an entire student-facing book is set to be a new and different adventure!
SO… I’m writing a book that deals with these subtle - and often overlooked -psychological challenges, and I’d love to have your stories and experiences reflected in that.
Help me make my new book both relevant and helpful.
The first task is for me to put together a Proposal to the publisher for what the book would include.
Here are my two requests:
- I’d love to hear anything you can recall of what your Uni / college time was like. And especially about what you found tricky or challenging. Any intel would be gratefully received. A comment under this post or an email sharing your thoughts would be great. And if you’d be happy to let me ask you a few extra questions on a call, even better!
- If you know someone currently studying on an Undergrad course, who might be willing to talk to me about their challenges and aspirations, please share this post with them or send them my way!
Thanks for reading Margarita ByHeart! This post is public so feel free to share it.
I want to leave you with this question: What do you wish were available to support learners, whether the learner was yourself or your child or somebody you know?
What do you wish were available to support learners?
Not sure what comes next?
Sometimes the first step is just saying this matters.
A Nesting Call is a gentle conversation to meet you where you are — no fixing, no rushing, just deep listening and space to notice what wants to unfold.
